Johnson County Community College's Open Petal Farm is a two and one-half acre learning lab for students, faculty members and curious neighbors who are interested in the basics of market farming. The purpose of the farm is two-fold: to provide a hands-on educational experience for the Sustainable Agriculture program and to provide locally grown, chemical-free produce to JCCC’s Dining Services and Culinary program. Open Petal Farm uses sustainable practices, growing cover crops, no-till vegetables, perennial fruits and native plants, to encourage a diverse and healthy system. Other projects at the farm include high tunnel production, a campus composting facility, and a small aquaponics system in a greenhouse.
