This ambitious community garden's main focus is on education and community building. Run by volunteers and Master Gardeners in the neighborhood, the one and one-half acre garden features 20 raised plot area for vegetable growing, a communal garden, a butterfly garden that will be a Monarch weigh station, a shady picnic area, a Giving Grove orchard, two hoop houses, bee hives, compost bins and more! The Turner Community Garden has won Master Gardener Search for Excellence Awards at the State and International level. The garden involves community groups, summer camps, and neighbors in all kinds of gardening events. In 2013, it established a garden market which has donated and continues to donate thousands of pounds of vegetables to neighborhood food pantries and kitchens.
