Woodland City is a 25,000 square foot market garden located on the East side of Kansas City. Established three years ago on the lot accompanying Neil and Lisa’s home, the operation has grown to include three vacant properties. They are using small-scale urban agriculture to build a healthy, safe, and equitable community within the Ivanhoe neighborhood. Woodland City is unique in the diverse, ever-changing KC urban agriculture scene in that they look at food production as a mechanism to make urban neighborhoods more functional, livable, and desirable. Not only cultivating food where access to nutrient-dense produce is scarce, Woodland City is constructing housing where access to affordable, healthy homes is limited.
