A study in urban permaculture, the food forest sits on a residential corner in Merriam, Kansas. Imagined and designed in 2011, by Daniel Dermitzel, Cultivate KC’s co-founder; the quarter-acre food forest has been an extensive research project and creative collaboration with local permaculture experts. Now five years later, this lot is maturing into a multi-story perennial food forest which includes trees, berries, brambles and herbs. Learn about the benefits of perennial agriculture and imagine a future in which our urban greenspaces and parks produce food year after year. Owners of the lot, PJ Quell and Larry Davis, will showcase their DIY creations at their sustainable urban homestead including a solar installation, an electric truck, edible landscaping, wood boiler for heating on Saturday only.
